Jewelry.com takes a look back at 2008 and crowns the year’s top 5 glittering jewelry stars.
This year has been all about making a statement, whether you’re the First Lady-elect or the First Lady of hip-hop, and the jewelry styles on the runways and the airways reflected just that. See who made our list and how you too can make a jewelry statement that will last well into 2009.
Our number 5 pick is a rock-and-roll superstar who went from eye-candy to icon this year. Never one to shy away from controversy, Pink’s latest album was a chart-topper and a jaw-dropper, as she sung frankly about her divorce from daredevil hubby, Carey Hart. Her jewelry fashion always kept us guessing, from an icy diamond cuff at the American Music awards, to a glittering headpiece at
the Aria Awards to our favorite black diamond clover earrings at the Video Music Awards. We can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with next year.
#4 Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron is not only an Oscar-winner and quite possibly the most beautiful creature on the planet, she is a bonafide jewelry hound. Jewelry.com spotted her everywhere this year, from the runways of Fashion Week, to the red carpet at movie premiers, to many fundraisers and grand openings in between. Here are some of our favorite Charlize looks for your drooling pleasure.
#3 Heidi Klum
Whether you admire her for being the most glamorous working mom on the planet or for her impeccable taste in men – we all really love our #3 jewelry star for her place on the runway. Project Runway, that is. The supermodel has been host to the country’s favorite reality show obsession for five seasons and shows no signs of stopping. She also co-hosted the Emmys this year and was the oldest model to work the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. And she had the best Halloween costume in the country this year. Hands down (all eight of them).
“If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it.” Wiser words have never been sung, and Beyonc?’s latest number one single “Single Girls” certainly says it with authority. And Beyonc? should know. She and longtime love, Jay-Z, tied the knot this year, and he put a “ring on it” so big, the jewelry world fell to its knees in awe. Weighing in at a mere 18 carats (yes, you heard it
right), her Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring is valued at $5 million and features a flawless, emerald cut diamond. But marriage wasn’t the only thing rocking Beyonc?’s life this year. Aside from the release of her chart-busting new album, she appears in the December movie release, Cadillac Records, as the music icon Etta James. It doesn’t get much better than that.
#1 Michelle Obama
Taking the number one spot is, (who else?) but our nation’s next First Lady, Michelle Obama. The divine Mrs. O is not only as smart and capable as our 44th President, we love her new take on significant other fashion. Her down-to-earth style and mixed use of designer and ‘off the rack’ is a far cry from Jackie-O’s fashion plate years and nowhere near the Laura Bush chic librarian era.
We’ve tracked Obama’s jewelry fashion choices throughout the election season, from her signature pearl strands, to her vintage brooch bling, to the dazzling Loree Rodkin diamond earrings she wowed us with on election night. We can only imagine what the first lady-elect has up her sleeve for the inauguration. One thing is for sure. J Crew ain’t gonna cut it.
