The catwalks are crackling as Paris Fashion Week bursts with tropical colors, huge headwear, shoulder-dusters and Joan Jett?
Paris Fashion Week is almost over, and the emerging pret-a-porter trends for Spring 2011 are as eclectic as the designer line-up. Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel showed jagged frocks in black and white with huge statement jewels, including blingy bib necklaces and swinging shoulder-duster earrings. John Galliano used an explosion of tropical color for both Dior and his own collection but opted for huge hats to accessorize instead of the large jewels that defined his lines in 2010.
Lanvin toned down the industrial statement necklaces of last year in exchange for leafy looks and small floral chokers. And Victor and Rolf riffed on the shirt dress, culminating in a huge runway-wide creation that caused tongues to wag and (we guess) Lady Gaga to get out her checkbook.
But it was Jean Paul Gaultier who created the most buzz for his Joan Jett-inspired line that was littered with heavy chains, wrap cuffs and lots of spikey mullets.
